Job Interview Questions

Interview Help

Interviews don’t need to be all about sweaty palms, eye contact and firm hand shakes. Yes, that all still plays a part in the interview process but not as much as others aspects of an interview. In every job interview you go to, you should prepare beforehand and acquire as much knowledge about the business as you can. It’s very important to have a good understanding of the company history, business structure, key facts, press media coverage and anything else about the company. Even better it’s good to know someone who works there, at least a name. You can then use that person as a bridge between you and the employer, this makes it more comfortable for the employer and can increase your chances significantly.

Interview Questions You Should Be Ready For

Interview questions may vary depending on the job vacancy and the business industry. However most employers use very generic interview questions, unless you are applying for a specialist role then you may in for some complex thought provoking questions. An ex Microsoft employee once told me that when he was being employed by Microsoft, he had to take a questionnaire and one of the questions were “Why are manholes round?”. Answer is: A round circle is the only shape that can fit inside it’s self no matter how many times you rotate it!

Unfortunately he got the question wrong, but this goes to show that every company has it’s own interview questions. Here are few that you should prepare yourself for.

1. What are your strengths?

This is a very common interview question and generally you should answer this question by highlighting your strengths and then backing it up with some relevant experience you have.

2. What are your weaknesses?

Again, employers like to know what one’s weakness may be, however this isn’t always a bad thing. Try and not make your weakness sound like something you cannot overcome. If possible try and demonstrate to the employer that you are a quick learner. Remember, a fool makes a mistake twice!

3. What do you know about us?

Well, well, well. This question comes down to how much do you know about the company. This question is guaranteed to be in every job interview, it’s very important to do a lot of research about the business. Go on to the companies website and visit the About Us page, normally that page should cover everything that the employer wants to hear when they ask you this question. It’s good to know key facts about the company such as how many employees? Where is the headquarters? Who is the CEO? etc.

4. Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

Every business likes loyal individuals and the last thing an employer wants to hear is “I’m looking to start my own business soon”. This is a fatal answer and goes to show that one has no interest to progress further into their career. Instead you should outline clear steps and achievable goals that you see yourself reaching in 5 years.

5. Tell me about yourself?

Keep it short, precise and relevant. No-one wants to hear about your life story, make yourself more interesting. At this question I normally look for some humour in the individual or small joke somewhere.

These 5 job interview questions are very likely to be found in every interview regardless of the industry. If you want to find some more in depth Interview Questions then I would highly recommend you to visit this website http://www.jobinterviewquestions.org.
